Luxury Yacht Charters Cruising as Usual Despite Turkish Protests
While Turkey’s commercial centers remain the target of anti-government protests, leaders in the yachting industry remain confident that yacht charter in Turkey will be unaffected.
Protests from the far left have shaken the countries cities for four weeks with protesters and police clashing almost daily. It is a different story in Turkey’s coastal areas where small picturesque villages and stunning scenery retain their allure, apparently unaware of any problems elsewhere in the country.
Turkey remains one of the favourite tourist destinations attracting more than 37.7 million visitors in 2012, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which says the country is among the top 10 most popular tourist destinations in the world. Over 5.2 million visitors have arrived already this year, exceeding visitors for the same period in 2012.
Although there have been murmurs of damage to the travel and tourism industry in general, none of the unrest in the cities around the country appears to be directed towards foreigners, luxury sectors or the yachting industry. The luxury yacht charter companies are gearing up for a bumper season and are not seeing any negative impact from the recent events.
Operators of exclusive yacht charter in Turkey, the Mediterranean and throughout the world expect business to be better than ever this year, anticipating that many wealthy individuals from Turkey’s larger cities will escape the unrest for luxury yacht holidays on the coast. The proximity to the Greek Islands guarantees the popularity of these waters with exclusive, elite clients and the season is starting vigorously.
Turkey has more coastline than any other Mediterranean country - some 8400 kilometres. There are many bays and coves, offering ample opportunities to anchor and with a hot summer almost guaranteed it is clear that not a lot will be able to keep people away for the cruising season.
The waters surrounding Turkey’s stunning coastline remain serene and the elite are predicted to flock to the region this season for their luxury yacht charter. Marinas are already filling up and captains and crew are ready for the summer cruising season to begin as normal.
